Walker OverstakeJunior Team AthleteWalker Overstake is a 16 year old from Steamboat Springs, CO who has competed & trained with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC) Alpine & Snowboard Cross teams for over a decade. At the age of 21⁄2 Walkers babysitter showed him the slopes where he began his snowboarding career. This resulted in a rebellious switch (away from skiing) where Walker became a dedicated snowboarder by 6 years old. Then he began contests starting at 7 years of age. Walker has earned many podiums at USASA Nationals including one Gold in Slalom, a Silver medal in Giant Slalom as well as a Bronze medal in Snowboard Cross. Current day Walker has completed the 2021-2022 season which marks the end of Walkers first year as a FIS athlete where the hard work and dedication earned him a spot at Junior Worlds. Walker loves all things to do with a board: skateboarding, surfing and loves to be outdoors. Racing means a lot to him, but all disciplines of snowboarding are just as important; especially riding POW in the backcountry. Walker has lots of experience backcountry snowboarding at a secret location which receives the most snowfall in the state of Colorado just 15 minutes away from his home.
Walker could not have gotten to the level of snowboarding he is at today without the support from his teammates, friends and family, but most of all, the instruction and training from his coaches: Thedo Remmelink, Maddy Schaffrick and Eric Gunderson. Honored to be nominated to the US Snowboard Racing Junior Team starting 2022-2023 season Walkers next goals are to earn top-five finishes in NorAm contests and Junior Worlds, as well as earn an invitation to compete at the World Cup and a slot for the next Olympic Games. |
